Call 703-324-2865 or e-mail plancom@fairfaxcounty.gov  by FEB. 25.  UPDATE:  Strong pro-trail testimony at public hearing 2/12.  For details on this amazing trail opportunity see my Lorton Valley Star article and my Jan 17 and Nov 13 blogs below. Virginia State Senator Hanger has introduced a budget amendment, SB-800, which would buy the Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail (DRHT) in King George County for inclusion in the state park system.  PHTA board member Jim Lynch asks trail enthusiasts to contact their Virginia State Senator to support this bill.  For more on the DRHT--maps, events, photos, please see  http://www.friendsdrht.org/            ...

The South County Federation voted unanimously (1/13/15) to support the scenic Cliffs of Occoquan Trail. A big step!  The PHTA/Fairfax Trails and Streams has advocated for this several times at the group's monthly meetings, and at recent public hearings.  But opposition is strong from Fairfax Water. This one is worth fighting for! With Vulcan Quarry, they come before the Fairfax Co. Planning Commission on Feb. 12 to propose vastly enlarging the quarry at Lorton and eventually turning it into a reservoir.  The project is subject to compliance with the Countywide Trails Plan, which specifies a trail along the entire Fairfax County shore of the Occoquan River.  This route, through dense woodland, has spectacular views of the river far below.   Please contact...
